Mandated with ensuring structural health compliance under the National Building Code. Evaluates foundation stability, seismic resistance in Zones IV & V, load-bearing capacities of aged buildings, and retrofitting certifications.
- Conducts ultrasonic pulse velocity and rebound hammer non-destructive testing.
- Certifies structural drawings for high-rise complexes exceeding 15 meters.
- Reviews seismic isolation and damper installations in metro transit corridors.
2. Directorate of Fire Engineering & Prevention
Formulates fire safety guidelines, inspects wet riser systems, fire hydrants, automated sprinkler networks, staircase pressurization, and smoke ventilation shafts.
- Direct issuance and audit of Provisional and Final Fire Safety NOCs.
- Mandatory review of hospital ICU, neonate ward, and basement fire isolation barriers.
- Standardizes fire suppression equipment specifications (IS 15683, IS 2189).
3. Electrical, Lift & Piped Gas Safety Cell
Over 70% of building fires originate from electrical short circuits and transformer overloads. This division audits switchgear, surge protectors, automatic power cut-offs, and commercial piped natural gas (PNG) safety valves.
4. Enforcement & Legal Wing
Executes statutory sealing orders, compounding penalties, electricity/water disconnection notices to hazardous structures, and represents NBFSA in the Supreme Court and High Courts.
